At the onset of the pandemic, the increase in anxiety and panic had a profound impact on people's lives. I, for instance, had to take precautions that my family interpreted as signs of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, such as excessive handwashing and thorough soap use. Anxiety and panic are precursors to various illnesses, including heart attacks, schizophrenia, depression, and bipolar disorder. These conditions initiate chemical and hormonal changes that can significantly harm the body.

Impact of Anxiety on the Body

Anxiety and panic increase adrenaline and cortisol, hormones that heighten the body's stress response. When cortisol and adrenaline are consistently elevated, individuals become more susceptible to conditions like hypertension, diabetes, and insulin resistance. These hormones also shut down the immune system, making the body more vulnerable to microbial attacks. Additionally, cortisol is linked to fatty liver disease and liver and pancreas problems. The constant release of adrenaline and cortisol can exacerbate hyper tension, which can affect the mind. In extreme cases, anxiety and panic attacks can lead to heart attacks, schizophrenia, depression, and bipolar disorder.

Lifestyle Strategies to Cope with the Pandemic

Despite the severity of the pandemic, there are strategies to manage anxiety and alleviate its effects on mental health:

Limit Exposure to News:Avoid watching videos and reading news about COVID-19. Exposure to constant negative information can fuel imaginary fears.

Manage Overthinking:Practicing mindfulness techniques can help. Regularly observing your breath and staying present can reduce negative thoughts and stress.

Homemade Coping Strategies:Follow simple, daily practices, such as avoiding fake news channels, limiting social media consumption, and maintaining good physical health through exercise, nutrition, and hydration.

Nurture Well-being:Engage in enjoyable activities with your family, make plans for the worst-case scenario, and prioritize your physical and mental health by obtaining proper insurance coverage.
